Dem Verhandlungsgeschick des Riesenburger Bürgermeisters war es zu verdanken, dass der Bau der Heil- und Pflegeanstalt 1928 für Riesenburg beschlossen wurde, obwohl sich viele weitere Städte darum bemüht hatten. Diese Anstalt unter Leitung ihres ersten Direktors Fahrenbruch wurde mitten in den Doktorwald gebaut. Mit 1.200 Morgen Waldgelände und einer von Oberamtmann Platz betreuten Landwirtschaft von 1.000 Morgen, galt sie als modernste Heil- und Pflegeanstalt Deutschlands dieser Zeit und beherbergte rund 2.000 Erkrankte. 1939 wurden alle Erkrankten ermordet. Danach wurde die Anstalt als Reservelazarett genutzt.

It was thanks to the negotiating skills of the mayor of Riesenburg that the decision was made in 1928 to build the sanatorium and nursing home in Riesenburg, even though many other towns had also applied for it. This institution, headed by its first director, Fahrenbruch, was built in the middle of the Doktorwald forest. With 1,200 acres of forest land and 1,000 acres of farmland supervised by District Administrator Platz, it was considered the most modern sanatorium and nursing home in Germany at the time and housed around 2,000 patients. In 1939, all the patients were murdered. After that, the institution was used as a reserve military hospital.

Dzięki umiejętnościom negocjacyjnym burmistrza Riesenburga w 1928 roku podjęto decyzję o budowie zakładu leczniczego i opiekuńczego w Riesenburgu, mimo że o to starało się wiele innych miast. Zakład ten, pod kierownictwem swojego pierwszego dyrektora Fahrenbrucha, został zbudowany w środku lasu Doktorwald. Dysponując 1200 akrami terenów leśnych i 1000 akrami gruntów rolnych, którymi zarządzał Oberamtmann Platz, zakład ten był uważany za najnowocześniejszy zakład leczniczy i opiekuńczy w Niemczech w tamtym czasie i mieścił około 2000 chorych. W 1939 roku wszyscy chorzy zostali zamordowani. Następnie zakład był wykorzystywany jako szpital rezerwowy.
