It is a black and white photo. It shows a park-like garden with several villa-like buildings. Fields can be seen at the end of the grounds. Two tall, narrow chimneys can be seen at the far end of the grounds.

LÜNEBURG

The Lüneburg »Children’s ward« took in its first children and adolescents on 9 October 1941. They were housed on the ground floor of House 23 and in House 25. In autumn 1944, House 23 was vacated and all the children were moved to House 25. In January 1945, the Lüneburg »Children’s Ward« moved to House 24. A total of 762 children and adolescents are documented as having been admitted to Lüneburg. More than 440 of them died. The catchment area covered what is now Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg. In 1943, the remaining children and adolescents from the Waldniel »Children’s ward« were admitted to Lüneburg. The last admission took place on 13 August 1945. The deaths did not end until 1946. Neither the head of the »Children’s ward«, Willi Baumert, nor the medical director, Max Bräuner, were ever held accountable. Criminal investigations were discontinued.
