INGEBORG WAHLE (1939 – 1945)

Ingeborg Wahle was born on June 13, 1939, in Göttingen. She was the second child of Elfriede, née Fendt, and Willi Wahle. Two years later, her sister Renate was born.

Ingeborg had a difficult start in life because she was delivered by forceps. She also had a rhesus incompatibility. Her development was delayed.

After Renate was born, the family of five moved to what is now Tulpenweg 6. Ingeborg’s brother Heinz had his own bedroom, while the sisters shared one. Ingeborg spent most of her time sitting on a padded chair at the kitchen table.

When Ingeborg was four years old, her parents had to take her to the health department in Göttingen on the initiative of the welfare office. By referring her to the »pediatric department,« her parents initially hoped that she would receive therapy to improve her condition.

Ingeborg was admitted on April 4, 1944, to the girls‘ ward on the upper floor of House 25.

In addition to numerous visits, the parents also kept in touch with the Lüneburg institution and nursing home through letters.

The doctors‘ responses to the parents‘ letters were pessimistic. Ingeborg was in poor condition, and her parents should prepare themselves for a poor prognosis.

Ingeborg’s mother Elfriede also inquired about her daughter after visits were no longer possible due to the war. But her parents‘ efforts did not prevent Ingeborg from being murdered. She died on February 24, 1945.

Willi Wahle’s last visit to his daughter Ingeborg took place the day before she was murdered. The visit is not documented.
