The crimes committed at the Lüneburg mental hospital did not end with the war. Until the 1970s, patients were devalued and treated inhumanely. Those responsible were hardly ever held accountable. Survivors and relatives of the victims were not involved in the investigation of the crimes. To this day, there is still disenfranchisement and violence against people with disabilities and mental illness. But there are also examples of diversity and participation as valuable contributions to a good life.
