ACTION
780 patients from the Lüneburg mental hospital were transferred to the killing centres in Brandenburg, Pirna-Sonnenstein, Hadamar and Pfafferode. More than 440 children and adolescents lost their lives in the »children’s ward«. Around 200 foreign patients were also murdered, mainly in the »foreigners‘ collection centre«; more than 60 of them were transferred to an unknown location in 1944 to be killed. Many patients also died of tuberculosis or starvation. Those in »preventive detention« were sent to the Neuengamme concentration camp. Forced sterilisation of well over 800 young people, women and men following decisions by the Lüneburg court, as well as forced abortions, were the beginning of these crimes.

Model house, patient work, no provenance, after 1945.
ArEGL 174-7.
The Lüneburg »children’s ward« was located in buildings 23, 24 and 25. Building 24 was the last building into which the »children’s ward« moved and in which children were murdered.
