Franz Gürtner was Reich Minister of Justice from 1932 until his death. He had studied law and worked at the district and regional courts in Munich. He received many honours for his service in the First World War. He married Luise Stoffel in 1920. They had three sons together. In 1922, he became Bavarian Minister of Justice. As such, he protected Adolf Hitler and the members of the banned NSDAP in the 1920s. During the Second World War, he tightened laws. He called it a »Revaluation of peace values in criminal law«. After his death, the Reich Ministry of Justice criticised the fact that there was no legal basis for »Euthanasia«.
