KURT HEINE (1897 – 1963)

Kurt Heine is not a typical victim of »Nazi psychiatry« and forced sterilization. He was a victim of the consequences of the First World War and his own ideological convictions. In times of economic and financial crises, he repeatedly experienced professional failures, which may have contributed to his illness. Seriously ill and lacking in self-esteem, he probably voluntarily underwent infertility surgery.

In 1943, after ten years of Nazi psychiatry, a sponsor gave him the chance to start a new life outside psychiatry. It was W. Otte from Prague, who gave Kurt Heine a new start in his career there. He arranged a job for him at the Land Office for Bohemia and Moravia, giving Kurt Heine a perspective for the future after 15 years of institutional psychiatry. All he had to do was apply and keep his psychiatric experience under wraps. The rest of his life is unknown. He died in Lüneburg in 1963.
