CARL RIEMANN (1893 – 1941)

Carl Riemann was born in Erfurt. He was a police officer in Hamburg. Because he was married to a Jewish woman 15 years his junior, he was »bullied« at work. This made him ill. In 1934, the couple separated. They had two children, who remained with their mother. Riemann moved into a house in Asendorf in the district of Harburg. There he fell ill, spent six weeks as a patient at Wilhelmsburg Hospital and was then transferred to the Hamburg-Friedrichsberg institution. In July 1935, Friedrichsberg was cleared and many patients were transferred to Hamburg-Langenhorn, including Carl Riemann. After six months, he was transferred to the Lüneburg institution. The change may have been related to the fact that he was registered in the catchment area of the Lüneburg institution. Three years later, Carl Riemann was declared legally incompetent. Another two years later, he was transferred to the Pirna-Sonnenstein killing centre and murdered. Officially, he is said to have died on 24 March 1941. In fact, he died on 7 March 1941.
